The two rivals went toe to toe for nine years in LaLiga before Ronaldo left Real Madrid to join Juventus ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the Portugal captain insisted he does not miss Messi, but urged him to look for a new challenge as well, and the Argentine has now discussed those comments.
"Everyone looks for their targets and their experiences," the Blaugrana captain said, as quoted by Marca.
"I never had the need to leave the best club in the world, that Barcelona are, and where I enjoy training, games and the city.
"Everything is very complete and I was always sure about the targets at this club (rather than going to) look for it elsewhere."
It seems Messi has made his mind up about retiring at FC Barcelona, despite earlier stating he would like to play for his boyhood club Newell's Old Boys before quitting the game.
However, with Barcelona said to be keen to extend his contract, which currently includes a clause that would allow him to leave for free if he alerts the club before the end of May in a particular year, Messi is sending more and more signals that he is ready for a new deal.
