Although FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is considered by many to be among the greatest footballers ever, some have questioned whether he would be able to achieve the same success in the Premier League. He has now responded to those doubters.
Despite having scored more than 600 goals and winning five Ballons d'Or, many have discredited the 31-year-old's achievements because he has spent his entire senior club career in Spain.
A question some have asked, although it has become a question asked with tongue in cheek, is whether or not Messi would "be able to do it on a cold, wet Tuesday night in Stoke".
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague recently revealed that he asked Messi this very question, and got a sharp response in return.
"I asked Messi about people in England saying: 'You would not do so well on a cold, wet night in Stoke,'" he said, according to the Daily Mirror.
"He said: 'They should have seen the pitches I played on in Rosario.'"
Before making the move to Barca as a young teenager, Messi grew up playing for Grandoli FC and Newell's Old Boys in Rosario, Argentina.
