FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi returned with a bang from his two-match ban, reaching two impressive milestones against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday night.
The Argentine, who was suspended for Barca's previous two games after being sent off in the Spanish Super Cup final, helped the Blaugrana come from behind in their 2-1 win in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.
He netted the equaliser soon after Rayo had taken the lead in the 63rd minute of the clash, before Frenkie de Jong secured the victory for Ronald Koeman's side.
That strike was Messi's 15th goal across all competitions for the campaign, making 2020/21 the 15th successive season in which he scored 15 times or more.
The Blaugrana captain also became his club's most-capped player in the Copa del Rey, overtaking Barca legend Josep Samitier.
Messi has now featured in 76 Copa del Rey matches, one more than Samitier did, while Andres Iniesta (73), Vicenc Piera (71) and Xavi Hernandez (70) complete the top five in this regard.
The Albiceleste talisman's goal against Rayo was also his 53rd in the competition, with only Samitier netting more for the Catalan giants (64 times).
Messi has also lifted the Copa six times – as many as Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Iniesta have – while Agustin Gainza holds the record for most tournament titles with Barcelona after winning it seven times in the 1940s and '50s.
