FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has climbed into fourth position among the players with over 500 goals for a single team, but can he still break Pele’s all-time record?

Overall, Messi has now scored 534 goals in 615 appearances for the Catalan giants, equaling the record of legendary Slavia Praha striker Joseph Bican.
Following Messi’s latest heroics – his 84th minute free kick ensured three points for the Blaugrana – the 30-year-old has now only three more players ahead of him in the ‘500 goals’ club.
Messi is only one of eight players to have scored more than 500 goals for a single team, as pointed out by the Guardian in an article in April 2017 when Messi had scored his 500th Barca goal. Only Sporting Lisbon legend Fernando Peyroteo, with 544 goals, and Bayern Munich’s Gerd Muller, with 566 goals, are still between him and Pele.

However, the legendary Brazilian still sits 109 goals ahead of Messi after scoring 643 official goals for FC Santos during his active days.
