The 32-year-old has only been at one club throughout his senior career so far, but he has now stated that this could change in the future after it was revealed that he could leave the Blaugrana for free if he informs the club before May in a given year that he sees his future elsewhere.
During an interview at the FIFA awards gala on Monday, where he was named The Best FIFA Men's Player of the Year, he was asked whether or not he would like to retire in Argentina one day.
"Yes. That's what I've always said, haven't I?" he told FIFA.com.
"It's a childhood dream of mine to play in the Newell's shirt, though I don't know if I can make it happen.
"It's not just down to me, though. I've got three children."
Messi also spoke about which titles he would like win in 2019/20 after Barcelona claimed just one major trophy in the previous campaign.
"All of them. It's been four years since we've won the Champions League and we really want to win it again," he added.
"We know, though, that if we don't do the job day in, day out, then we won't make it.
"And as for the Copa America, I'm really looking forward to having the opportunity to go for it yet again. I'm really excited about this year's Copa."
