'Lionel Messi Must Stop Playing For FC Barcelona & Focus On 2018 FIFA World Cup'
Many believe FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi deserves to win a FIFA World Cup with Argentina after losing to Germany in the final in 2014. The forward has now been told to stop playing for his club and focus only on the international tournament in two months' time!
The 30-year-old has never won silverware with the Albiceleste, and many feel it would be justice for him to do so, preferably the World Cup.
Oscar Ruggeri, who won the tournament in 1986 with Argentina, believes that, with Barca having all but secured the LaLiga title, Messi should stop playing for his club side and focus all his energy on winning the upcoming World Cup in Russia with his country.
"Do you think Barcelona will lose the Spanish championship if Messi doesn't play again?" he told 90 Minutes Fox.
"Messi can call the Barcelona president and tell him 'this is my World Cup; I'm going to dedicate myself to the national team'.
"He must also call the national team coach and tell him that he is going to be completely concentrated on the World Cup."
Messi has scored 39 goals and assisted a further 16 strikes in 49 games so far for Barca this season.
The Catalan club will play Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday night, and the Argentine will no doubt be looking to add to his goals tally.
