Due to how FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi's game has changed over the years, a certain pundit has doubts as to whether or not the Argentine would fit into Pep Guardiola's system at Manchester City.
We have seen many players and managers form special bonds with one another in football, but one of the most iconic player-boss relationships was that of Messi and Guardiola's. Together, the pair won trophy after trophy at the Catalan giants, with both personalities dependent on one another.
However, Alex Scott, a former Arsenal Womens player, feels their tight rapport would not be enough for Messi to make Guardiola's current City side, mainly due to the tactician's insistence on hard work and pressing from every player.
"I don't know. I went to see Barcelona play Manchester United in the Champions League, and Messi's game has evolved differently," she said on Sky Sports’ Goals On Sunday show.
"He was actually spending most of his time... he knew when to come into the game and when to stay out of it. It was as if he was saving himself.
"Yes, I understand, Messi is Messi, he's going to win you games, but just seeing how every single player for City is pressing, closing down, it's a different tempo."
Messi has been linked with City in the past, although it is believed his Blaugrana teammates talked him out of any potential exit.
