The 32-year-old went into the match against Eibar having failed to find the net in his previous four appearances, but opened the scoring after just 14 minutes.
Messi added a second in the 37th minute, rounded up his hat-trick three minutes later, and completed his four-goal haul three minutes before the end of regulation time.
It was the second time the Argentine had scored four goals against Eibar, and even more impressive, those strikes ensured that Messi has now contributed to more than 1 000 goals for club and country in his career.
With 696 strikes and 306 assists, the Blaugrana captain has had a direct hand in 1002 goals since his senior debut in 2004, according to Transfermarkt.
The forward is the first player in recorded history to achieve this incredible feat, and appears to still have a lot more to offer at the highest level.
