Lionel Messi let his frustration get the better of him when he kicked the ball at the referee last night, but a former referee feels he should have sent off.
The Argentine endured another frustrating evening as the Catalan giants dropped points in a 1-1 draw away to Deportivo Alaves on Saturday night.
During the first half after a foul was given to Alaves, Messi was seen kicking the ball in the direction of the referee in frustration although he only recieved a yellow card.
Marca's referee expert Juan Andujar Oliver, who is now retired, believes the Argentine should have been sent off for the incident.
"He should have been sent off, even though the ball didn't hit Hernandez Hernandez," Andujar Oliver told Radio MARCA.
"With that action, he wanted to intimidate the referee and that deserves a straight red."
