The Argentine scored three goals in his side’s 4-2 win over Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday evening, taking his tally for the LaLiga season to 32 strikes.
His goals tally equates to 64 points in the European Golden Shoe ranking, with LaLiga’s accumulator being rated as “two” by UEFA.
Messi reclaimed the lead in the Golden Shoe race from Salah, who failed to find the back of the net in Liverpool's 0-0 draw against Stoke this weekend and remained on 31 strikes and 62 points.
The FC Barcelona superstar has a massive advantage over the second-placed Egyptian, who could become the first African to lift the award, because he still has four league fixtures, while the Salah only has two left.
Lazio’s Ciro Immobile follows with 29 goals, equating to 58 points in third place, while Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski sits on 28 strikes and 56 points.
Further down the ranking, Cristiano Ronaldo has remained in ninth spot after once again being rested in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Leganes on Saturday. The Portuguese has now missed five of Real’s last 11 league fixtures due to being rested by Zinedine Zidane.
