A defender who once played at the highest level has insisted that it was tougher to play against FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi than it was to play against Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ashley Cole, who represented two Premier League giants in Arsenal and Chelsea, is considered by many to be the best left-back ever to come out of England.
Starring as a pundit recently, the fullback, who now plays for Derby County, was asked to reveal who he found more difficult to mark between Messi and Ronaldo.
"It has to be Messi," he answered on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.
"People talk about Ronaldo more because I played against him more.
"But I think, to mark Messi, on his day... he was just too good for me.
"But, again, he's never scored (against me)."
Following a successful career in England, Cole joined Roma in Italy before taking his career to the MLS with LA Galaxy. The 38-year-old joined Frank Lampard's Derby in the January transfer window, but is yet to play a game for the Rams.
