An African icon, who used to represent Chelsea in the Premier League, believes FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is still the best player in the world.
Celestine Babayaro spent eight successful years playing for the Blues following his move from Belgian giants Anderlecht in 1997.
Asked who he believes is the best player in world football at the moment during a recent interview, the Nigerian sided with Messi, although he did give special mention to Cristiano Ronaldo.
"Different eras, different times," said Babayaro to Nigeria Info FM.
"It is just like people still trying to compare (Diego) Maradona, Pele, Messi.
"At the moment, Messi is still the number one. Ronaldo is still up there.
"It just depends on who you feel that is the best. But football, like I said, is different eras."
Messi scored 51 goals and assisted a further 22 strikes in 50 matches for the Catalan giants in the 2018/19 campaign.
