Following FC Barcelona's recent struggles, it has been claimed that six-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi has lost the magical touch he once had.
There have been plenty of on-field and off-field issues at the Catalan club in recent years, and one of those problems appears to be the team's dependence on Messi.
While he has often carried the Blaugrana on his back with startling performances and moments of individual brilliance, there are many who believe that since Neymar's controversial exit from the Camp Nou in 2017, Barca has been a club in crisis.
Speaking on the uncertainty surrounding the LaLiga champions recently, former Blaugrana player Lobo Carrasco suggested that Messi is perhaps not able to do as much as he once did on the field.
"Messi is not the problem," he told Don Diario.
"If I could see that Messi was not willing to give more, I would say so.
"Let's not attack him – not because I am defending him, but because, right now, he has become more human.
"The things that he did with the ball in the past were crazy and now things are missing that are not his fault."
Messi has played 37 matches for the Catalan giants so far this season, scoring 27 goals and assisting a further 22 strikes in the process.
