FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has acknowledged that his position on the field has changed in recent years but he insisted that scoring goals is still his main priority.
The 30-year-old, who reached the 600 career goal milestone last week, started his career out on the right wing under Frank Rijkaard and then turned into a false 9 under Pep Guardiola.
At a promotional event, the Argentine was asked if Ernesto Valverde has changed his position on the field to allow him more time on the ball.
"Yes, in the past year I have moved a bit deeper, getting to the goal from behind, unlike other years when I was more in the final third of the pitch," Messi said, as quoted by Marca.
"So it's true that I have moved a few metres back, but still with the (same) idea of getting in the area and trying to score goals."
Messi has made 41 appearances for the Blaugrana this season, scoring 32 goals and assisting in a further 16 more.
