One of Lionel Messi's countrymen has insisted the FC Barcelona superstar needs to leave his comfort zone and "have balls like Cristiano Ronaldo" to join bitter rivals Real Madrid to avoid being just an ordinary player.
The Argentine scored twice and assisted two further strikes in his side's 5-1 thumping of Real Valladolid on Tuesday night.
In doing so, he overtook Ronaldo in terms of club goals, but former Boca Juniors goalkeeper Hugo Gatti seemingly feels that Messi only performs at the Camp Nou.
"It seems as if I am anti-Argentine, but until Messi plays in the big games, he will continue to be a player of home games," Gatti told El Chiringuito de Jugones.
"He has to have balls to go to Real Madrid and prove everything there like Cristiano (Ronaldo). Otherwise, he will be just one more (player).
"Cristiano went to the best club in the world. Messi plays at home, on his pitch with everything.
"Let him play in the Champions League and the World Cup, otherwise he will always be one more.
"When he plays there, he will fight with (Johan) Cruyff, (Diego) Maradona and Pele.
"Messi plays when they let him play. It's very easy to play with everything in your favour at home."
Messi has now scored 608 goals at club level, while Ronaldo is one strike behind him after netting a late penalty to hand Juventus a 2-1 win over Genoa on Wednesday night.
