Messi Furious With Barca Teammates

Following FC Barcelona's 3-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup on Thursday night, captain Lionel Messi appeared to be furious with his teammates.

Despite Diego Simeone's side scoring first to put the pressure on the Catalan giants through Koke early in the second half, Barca responded well and almost immediately when Messi found the back of the net to equalise just moments later.

After just another 11 minutes, former Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann put the Blaugrana 2-1 ahead, while VAR ruled out two goals for Ernesto Valverde's side in what was a brilliant performance.

However, Atletico found themselves back in the game when Alvaro Morata tucked away a penalty in the 81st minute, before Angel Correa won the match for his team just five minutes later.

Messi, who appeared to be back to his best for Barca, was understandably annoyed with the result, and more annoyed with his teammates' childish mistakes.

"It is a shame, we played a great game, after so long we felt good again, we were in control, dominated and attacked all the time," Messi told reporters, according to the Daily Mail.

"We let it slip through certain mistakes when (Atletico) were already almost dead, in less than 10 minutes they turned round a game that we should have seen out.

"It hurts because it is a title and we wanted to be in the final and win it, we showed a different side to what we have been showing recently against Espanyol and at the end of last year, we played a good game but sadly we couldn't get the victory.

"We have taken a step forward today despite the defeat but we are aware that we have not been doing things the way we want, we do not want to make these childish mistakes again."
