Lionel Messi Far Ahead Of Cristiano Ronaldo In All-Time Copa Del Rey Top Scorers List

By Kurt Buckerfield - Feb 09, 2018 12:29 PM @KurtLaduma

Lionel Messi has been FC Barcelona's driving force on their road to the Copa del Rey final this season, and he is one of the competition's all-time leading goalscorers. Look at where he ranks compared to Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and others.

The Argentine has contributed with some spectacular performances in the cup competition for the Catalan giants in this campaign, scoring three goals and assisting twice more in five matches.

Although Messi is the only active player among the all-time top 10 scorers of the Copa del Rey, he is still far behind the leader Telmo Zarra, who scored 81 times in the competition for Athletic Bilbao.

Second to Zarra is former Barca and Real forward Josep Samitier with 70 goals, followed by Guillermo Gorostiza with 62 strikes, and Quini with 55.

Former Valencia attacker Edmundo Suarez struck 51 times in the competition for Los Che, while Los Blancos legend Ferenc Puskas and Barca icon Laszlo Kubala hit the back of the net on 49 occasions each in the tournament.

In at eighth is former Real talisman Santillana with 48 Copa goals, followed by the aforementioned Messi on 47 strikes – the same number of strikes Cesar Rodriguez Alvarez scored in the competition.

Reports: Barca Want South African Born Star

Ronaldo, who has often been rested for Copa del Rey matches in recent seasons, has scored just 22 times in the tournament, trailing his Blaugrana rival by 25 strikes.

Some bloggers wanna force Penaldo down our throughts....listen my cow.The reason you think Messi plays for better teams at club level and national level respectively is that a team with Messi is always gonna be strong.....that’s a fact my cow! Watch a Barca team without Messi in the starting line up not to mention Argentina.

Ronaldo rarely even plays in the copa del ray these days. how about compare their stats in UCL? Ronaldo has more goals and assists then Messi. Even if we get rid of his goals and assists from Man U he still is at the top. PLUS to the comment saying "messi is far ahead of him in all aspects of the game" that is such a lie. . Ronaldo has better sprints, better at free kicks, headers, knuckle balls, skills, using weaker foot, finishing, big game player, leader, etc. Just because messi is better at dribbling and assisting doesn't make him better at "all aspects". I'm a lover of the beautiful game and I'm aware of Ronaldo's rocky season thus far but I still think that Ronaldo is a better player. Success wasn't handed to him and had to work hard to become who he is. Messi has been playing for the strongest football club of this generation his whole life and was given the luxury to play for the strongest national team of this generation and fails to prove his worth with them. Personally I think people just like to act dumb when it comes to how great Ronaldo actually is.
