The Frenchman has been linked with a big-money move to the Camp Nou in recent months and is expected to clarify his club future before the start of the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Messi, who has admitted previously that he would love to play alongside Griezmann, believes the 27-year-old forward would be a great signing for the club, and would also improve the Blaugrana's chances of winning the UEFA Champions League.
"I agree that to win the Champions League again, we need to have the best players. Moreover, Griezmann is one of them," Messi told Sport.
"If the club signs him, brilliant. I do not know if he is the priority. That depends on the signing committee and the coach.
"I can only say that to win the Champions League, you have to have the best players. And he is very good."
The Spanish giants have not been crowned European champions since 2015, when they beat Juventus 3-1 in Berlin.
