FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi was involved in all five goals in his side’s 5-0 thumping of Levante, closing on a record set by his longstanding rival Cristiano Ronaldo along the way.

The Argentine scored three goals and set up the other two in Barca’s 5-0 win over Levante – the only team, who beat the Catalan giants in LaLiga last season.
Messi scored a superb hat-trick, his 43rd across all competitions for FC Barcelona.
In doing so, the 31-year-old is now just one hat-trick shy of his longstanding rival Ronaldo, who has scored 44 hat-trick during his time at Real Madrid. No other player has scored more trebles for a Spanish club.
Overall, Ronaldo has scored 51 hat-tricks for club and country, while Messi now sits on 49 trebles, despite having played 152 games less.

Messi also took his tally for the calendar year to 50 strikes, reaching this milestone for an eighth time in his career.
