Earlier this season, ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said he did not believe the Argentine was a good signing for Paris Saint-Germain during a segment on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.
This past Friday, during an on-air conversation with Gary Neville, the former England centre-back revealed he was contacted directly by Messi for his remarks in a private message on Instagram.
"No, he's not happy with me at all," Carragher said, according to Eurosport.
"I had a little pop at [Cristiano] Ronaldo earlier in the season, didn't think it was a great signing for United, then I said the example of Messi, I didn't think Messi's a great signing for PSG.
"It was on Monday Night Football and I got a private message on Instagram.
"I will not be showing private messages but he basically called me a donkey."
Messi returned to action for the French giants in their 4-0 Ligue 1 win over Stade Reims on Sunday, during which he was introduced as a second-half substitute.
