FC Barcelona superstar has now scored more goals from direct free-kicks than rival Cristiano Ronaldo, but there is a twist.

The 33-year-old netted a free-kick in his side’s 4-0 win over Granada, which was his 11th goal of the 2020/21 LaLiga campaign.
Overall, it was Messi’s 48th free-kick goal for FC Barcelona, with 37 of those coming in LaLiga.
The Argentine has now netted one more free-kick than Ronaldo in club football, as Opta pointed out.
However, overall Ronaldo still leads their free-kick battle as a whole, having scored 57 deadball attempts in comparison to Messi’s 54.
Ten of Ronaldo’s free-kick goals were scored for Portugal, while Messi has converted six free-kicks on national team duty with Argentina.
