Messi Among Biggest Stars With Expiring Contracts

Lionel Messi Among Biggest Stars With Expiring Contracts

Lionel Messi has a €300 million release clause in his contract, but it expires by the end of the season. He is only one of quite a few major stars, including another FC Barcelona stalwart and a Real Madrid player, whose contracts expire in 2018.

The Argentine is yet to put pen to paper on his new deal, despite the club announcing in early July that both parties had agreed on a contract extension. Back then, the official statement suggested Messi would sign his new deal before the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

With only 10 months left on his current deal at this stage, clubs could approach him in January to speak about a free deal at the end of the season.

However, Barcelona director Albert Soler has insisted that the club's fans don't need to worry about Messi leaving on a free as his signature is just a formality.

"There is absolutely no problem where Messi is concerned," Soler said in a press conference on Saturday, as quoted by The Sun.

"There is no problem, I insist, it will happen soon. It depends on the agendas, from here I want to send a message of tranquility to the Barcelona members. Please be calm."

Messi is not the only high-profile name who finds himself with just 10 months left on their current deal. Arsenal duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are yet to sign new contracts, and at least the former is likely to leave after his move to Manchester City collapsed on deadline day.

Real Madrid's Isco, who scored a brace for Spain against Italy over the weekend, is also yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, although he has reportedly already agreed all details, while Messi's teammate Andres Iniesta is another player whose current contract expires at the end of this campaign.

Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are just two of as many as eight Manchester United stars who could leave for free at season's end if the club does not extend their current contracts.

Rumours are everywhere man...against everyone, If it's rumour why the coach is concerned by the team being distracted? Everything we read is rumour until confirmed. Who can try to destabilise Argentina? For what exactly? They are no. 5 on their group for God sake.

I thought you are wise enough not to include players like Zlatan because at his age there is no way a club can give him more than a year contract, after all he was free when he joins Man U. These guy will play like this till he retires unless a certain team give him a role as a player coach den he can get a longer contract
