Lionel Messi has been making all the headlines in 2015 has also beat his long-standing rival Cristiano Ronaldo acquiring the most Man of the Match awards this season.
The Argentine has already scored 10 goals and assisted a further five since the turn of the year, while Ronaldo only scored four and assisted one.
However, the Portuguese is still ahead of Messi in terms of overall goals scored in La Liga – leading with 28 compared to Messi’s 23. In addition, Ronaldo has nine assists, while Messi has set up 12 La Liga goals.
If we look at the Champions League performances of both superstars, Messi has eight goals and two assists, while Ronaldo has five goals and one assist.
Hence it doesn’t surprise that Messi has clearly outplayed Ronaldo when it comes to Man of the Match Awards this season.
The Barcelona superstar has received 21 Man of the Match awards, compared to Ronaldo’s 13 in La Liga and Champions League.
Five out of Messi’s 21 awards came in the Champions League, while Ronaldo was only named Man of the Match once in Europe so far.
Ronaldo's last Man of the Match performance was on 12 December, while Messi has won five consecutive Man of the Match awards in 2015.
Messi also beats Ronaldo when it comes to Whoscored ratings, averaging 8.76 in La Liga and 9.08 in the Champions League - compared to Ronaldo’s 8.55 in La Liga and 7.89 in Europe.
Overall, Messi is rated 8.92 while Ronaldo averages a mark of 8.22.
