Kylian Mbappe has released an official statement after shocking the world with his decision to reject Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Report: Mbappe's Big Wages Revealed After New PSG Deal
It was confirmed on Saturday that the 23-year-old had renewed his stay at Paris Saint-Germain following a long and intense transfer saga involving the LaLiga champions, who were said to have reached an agreement with him to sign him as a free agent.
Mbappe's new three-year deal in France was announced prior to PSG's 5-0 drubbing of Metz at the weekend, a game in which Mbappe celebrated the occasion by scoring a hat-trick.
With Real president Florentino Perez disappointed and LaLiga encouraging an investigation into the French club's financial dealings, Mbappe has explained his decision was motivated by his desire to help PSG reach the top.
"I am convinced that here I can keep improving at a club with the means to reach new heights," he wrote in a lengthy social media post.
"I am very pleased to be staying in France, the country where I was born, where I grew up and blossomed as a footballer, and where I now have the chance to keep chasing my dreams.
"I honestly want to sincerely thank Real Madrid and their president, Florentino Perez.
"I acknowledge how lucky and privileged I have been to be courted by such an institution. I have no doubt they will be disappointed.
"I will be right behind them in the Champions League final in Paris, my home."
