Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has made a shock admission about Lionel Messi's arrival at the club.
It was widely reported in August that the 22-year-old wanted to leave the French giants, with rumours at the time suggesting that Real Madrid were desperate to land his expensive signature.
In a recent interview, Mbappe revealed that he first asked to be sold back in July to give PSG time to find an appropriate replacement for him. The forward's contract expires in 2022 and there are fears he could depart at the end of the season for free.
Many believed, however, that PSG were aiming to impress him with their project when they landed a host of high-profile players ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, names such as Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Georginio Wijnaldum and, in particular, Messi.
Mbappe, though, has now claimed that, although starring alongside the former Barcelona and six-time Ballon d'Or winner is something he does not take for granted, this was never going to persuade him to stay in Paris.
"I was not changing my mind [on his desire to leave PSG] because of Leo Messi's arrival… it's a privilege, he's great, but I don't make decisions on sudden impulses," he told L'Equipe.
"I had made my decisions and I had thought long and hard about it."
Mbappe has scored just four goals in 11 appearances across all competitions so far this season, while he has also assisted a further five strikes.
