Juventus Boss Slams Team For Giving Lionel Messi Space
Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has criticised his team for how they dealt with Lionel Messi in their 3-0 loss to FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
Messi opened the scoring for the Catalan club just before the stroke of half-time, before playing a hand in Ivan Rakitic's goal and later adding his second of the night.
Allegri lamented his team's loss of concentration, insisting that the Argentine is capable of anything when he is given time on the ball.
"Barcelona are a team that can play games like that very well," he said, according to Marca.
"In the first half, I thought we dealt with Messi and (Andres) Iniesta quite well but not so much in the second half.
"Messi made the difference and (Paulo) Dybala did not. He had three shots on goal, scored twice and also hit the post once.
"He's unstoppable when he has space. What this result does is make us understand that if you play in the Champions League against teams of that level and don't keep your concentration, then you pay for it.
"We must grow and be more focused and solid at the mental level. We lost our concentration."
Messi has now scored 96 goals in 116 Champions League games for Barca, and has won the competition on four occasions with Barca.
