New FC Barcelona signing, Ivan Rakitic, thanked God to play alongside Lionel Messi and believes the Argentine could play until he is 80.
Rakitic joined the Catalan giants for around £15 million from Sevilla and has been one of the standout players in Barcelona’s pre-season.
The 26-year-old hailed his new teammates Lionel Messi and Neymar in an interview with Marca.
“Deco said the other day that Messi could play until he's 60. I say he could play until he is 70, or 80, or until he retires. I have to thank God for allowing me to play alongside him,” Rakitic said.
“I played against him at the Brazil World Cup and despite his young age, he can change a game. His skills are amazing.”
The Croatia international believes Barcelona will challenge with the two Madrid-based clubs for the La Liga title and also praised new Blaugrana coach, Luis Enrique.
“Based on the past few years, it looks as though both Madrid clubs will be in the mix, although there could be the odd surprise. Every game is tough and it's always hard to win games,” he added.
“Yes, as a manager, what you see is what you get, he's a perfectionist and that's a good thing.”
