"It's Impossible To Make Up Messi's Absence"

FC Barcelona midfielder, Ivan Rakitic, has spoken about his relationship with Lionel Messi and the first time they met.

The Croatian midfielder joined the Catalan giants at the start of the 2014/2015 and played a key role in the treble winning campaign, keeping club legend Xavi Hernandez on the bench.

However, Luis Enrique's men have struggled lately without Messi, who is expected to be out for a while and Rakitic feels it's impossible to make up for the absence of the Argentine.

"Messi is one and only, no one like him will ever be born again," he added. "When it gets tough, he pops up and solves the problem," Rakitic told Vecernji.

"Now each one of us will have to give even more to replace him, but it is impossible to make up Messi's absence.

"Privately, Messi is calm, quite, no big words... but as I came, he approached me and said 'Hi, I am Lionel Messi, and whatever you need, just tell me'.

"Now our wives and children hang out more than the two of us have time to."

Rakitic also had special praise for Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, who scored over 100 in all competitions during the treble-winning season.

"MSN are football magicians and if I wasn't part of that family, I would also admit they are the best,'" he added.
