Date: 07 June 2019
Venue: Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario
FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi played a starring role as Argentina romped to a 5-1 thumping of Nicaragua as they continue preparation for the Copa America.
Messi was joined in the attack by Sergio Aguero, Giovani Le Celso and Matias Suarez, while Angel di Maria and Paulo Dybala were left on the bench.
After a relatively quiet opening, the hosts broke the deadlock after 37 minutes, with Messi finding the back of the net with a wonderful individual effort that saw him beat three players before slotting into the bottom corner.
A minute later, Messi doubled the lead with a close range finish after Aguero's initial effort was saved at the near post.
That was to be Messi's last real involvement as he made way for Dybala at the start of the second half while Lautaro Martínez replaced Aguero.
Martinez certainly made the most of his chance after the Inter Milan star extended Argentina's lead in the 65th minute with a neat turn and finish in the box on 63 minutes.
The fourth goal arrived 10 minutes later as Ramiro Funes Mori's flick-on at the near post found Martinez, who volleyed home at the far post.
The rout was completed by Roberto Pereyra in the 81st minute with a simple tap-in at the far post, before Juan Barrera bagged a consolation for the visitors from the penalty spot in time added on,
