The Catalan giants secured their spot in the round of 16 with an assured 3-1 victory over Dortmund at the Camp Nou on Wednesday, with Messi scoring once and assisting the other two goals.
The Argentine's goal in the 33rd minute ensured that he has now found the back of the net against 34 opponents in the Champions League, more than any other player in the history of the tournament, according to Opta Sports.
Before his strike against BVB, Messi was level with Ronaldo and Raul Gonzalez on 33 teams scored against, but he has now surpassed both Real Madrid legends.
The 32-year-old has now scored 10 goals and assisted a further eight strikes in 13 appearances across all competitions for Barca this season.
