A former international footballer has recalled the time he went head to head with Lionel Messi, and jokingly suggested that he would have been taken out by the Argentina superstar's teammates if he had injured him.

Andre Boucad, who represented Trinidad & Tobago between 2014 and 2017, recently spoke to English publication KentOnline about the time his nation took on Messi's Argentina, and how he relished the opportunity to challenge the world's best player.
"I tackled Messi hard," Boucad started.
"It was in Argentina and I gave him a hard tackle.

"In the heat of the moment, one of the players came over and said, 'my friend, calm down' and I was like, 'shut up, blah, blah, blah'.
"The guy telling me to calm down was (Javier) Mascherano so I kind of realised where I was, and if I'd injured Messi in Argentina, I don't think I'd be here now to do this interview!
"We lost 3-0 but it was only 1-0 at half-time."

Boucad has spent the majority of his career in the lower rungs of England's football pyramid and Maidstone United in the National League South, or sixth division.
