Having played with superstar Cristiano Ronaldo for three years at Manchester United, Patrice Evra has explained why he will always choose the Portuguese forward over FC Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi.
The 38-year-old was full of praise for the Juventus man, whom he played with at the Red Devils between 2006 and 2009, winning nine trophies together.
Evra has insisted he will always take Ronaldo's side in the eternal debate, saying that while Messi is a natural talent, his former teammate had to work to get where he is today.
"Cristiano Ronaldo is the most professional player I ever played with. He was the one that, if we had training at 10, he would be there at 8," the Frenchman said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football show this week.
"He was the last to leave the training ground, practising his skill.
"That's why, when we compare him to Messi, I always choose Cristiano, and people say it's just because he's my friend.
"I just think Messi, it's just a gift, it's talent. God said, 'Go on, go and play with those kids'.
"But Cristiano worked so hard. He's a machine. He doesn't want to lose anything.
"He even wants to be the most beautiful guy, he wants to be the one that is dressing the best."
