After it appeared that superstar Cristiano Ronaldo had convinced him to sign for Juventus, one of the Bianconeri's newest arrivals has denied joining the Italian giants purely because of the former Real Madrid talisman.
After the Netherlands' loss to Portugal in the final of the Uefa Nations League, Ronaldo was seen in conversation with defender Matthijs de Ligt, with it later being revealed that the striker had told the 19-year-old to join Juve.
While many believed it was Ronaldo's words that saw De Ligt choose to join the Old Lady over a switch to FC Barcelona, the player himself has insisted that their brief conversation did not play as big a role as previously thought.
"He was not the main factor in making me choose Juventus," he told Tuttosport.
"There are many factors that led me to decide to accept Juve.
"But it is clear that it is nice when someone as big as Cristiano says something to you, but, really, it wasn't the key factor."
De Ligt also shared some insight into his first few days as a Juve player.
"I get on well with my teammates, they are very nice. I learn from them every day," he added.
"There are many experienced players, so I am really happy. I am surprised by everyone's level: they are all concentrated, no one stands out because many individuals are strong.
"It is difficult to play with such strong players, but I will do my best."
De Ligt has appeared twice in pre-season so far for Juve, and scored an own goal in their 1-1 draw with Inter Milan, a tie the Italian champions won on to win on penalties.
