A former Real Madrid star has claimed he could have reached the same level as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but preferred to have glass of alcohol at supper time.
Dutchman Wesley Sneijder was one of the famous players to miss out on a Ballon d'Or title during the Messi and Ronaldo reign, much like Andres Iniesta and Franck Ribery.
Many thought Sneijder would claim the prestigious award in 2010 after playing a key role in Inter Milan's historic treble-winning season, but the accolade went to Messi.
Sneijder, who retired in 2018, has now insisted he did not have any desire to become a superstar at the level of Messi and Ronaldo, who have won 11 Ballon d'Or titles between them.
"I could have become like Messi or Ronaldo. I simply didn't feel like it," the Dutchman told Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, as per the Daily Mail.
"I enjoyed my life, maybe I had a glass [of wine] at dinner.
"Leo and Cristiano are different, they have made many sacrifices, and that's fine with me.
"My career, however, was still amazing."
