Lionel Messi made his 700th appearance for FC Barcelona on Wednesday night, but how does the Argentina superstar compare with arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo after the same number of games?
Messi became only the second player in Barca's history to reach 700 appearances for the club on Wednesday, and marked the occasion with a goal and two assists in his side's 3-1 UEFA Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund.
According to GiveMeSport, who recently compiled a comparison between Messi and Ronaldo, that goal was his 613th strike for the Blaugrana, which puts him 109 ahead of Juventus star Ronaldo, who had scored 504 goals after the same number of matches.
Messi's assists were also the 236th and 237th times he had set up his Barca teammates for a goal since breaking into the first team, which trumps Ronaldo's tally of 185 for the likes of Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Ronaldo also loses out to Messi in terms of hat-tricks scored after 700 club games, with the Portugal captain having netted 41 trebles during that period compared to his rival's 46.
Barca's most successful player of all time also trumps 34-year-old Ronaldo in terms of trophies won, with the Argentine forward boasting 34 titles to the Portuguese star's 21 at the same stage of his career.

Messi also holds the record for the most unique teams scored against in Champions League history, with Dortmund being the 34th different team to fall victim to his goalscoring prowess.
