Highest-Paid Players Worldwide After Ronaldo Transfer

One of the reasons why Cristiano Ronaldo was reportedly unhappy at Real Madrid was they did not want to increase his salary to Lionel Messi and Neymar's level. How does his new Juventus deal compare to his two rivals' and the rest of the world's highest-paid players?

Click through the gallery above to see the 10 highest-paid players in the game and what they are earning annually, according to Marca and Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri.

The 33-year-old upgraded his annual salary from €21 million (R326 million) at Madrid to €30 million (R465 million) with the Italian giants.

In so doing, he moved from sixth among the world's top earners to third spot. However, his two biggest rivals, Messi and Neymar, remain ahead of him.

Messi is currently the highest-paid footballer in the world, at €46 million (R714 million) per season, followed by Neymar, who is on €36 million (R558 million) a year.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, overtook Andres Iniesta, who reportedly pockets €25 million (R388 million) annually at Vissel Kobe in Japan, to climb into third spot on the podium.

Oscar appears in fifth position, earning €24 million (R372 million) a year at Shanghai SIPG in China, while Alexis Sanchez is the highest-paid player in England after agreeing to an annual €22.5 million (R349 million) deal at Manchester United in January.

Antoine Griezmann, Hulk, Javier Mascherano and Axel Witsel are the other four players in the top 10, and you can find all their annual salaries in the gallery above.
