Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have battled each other for top individual trophies over the years, but it appears the Portuguese has already admitted defeat for one prize this season.
The Portuguese outscored Messi in the three past La Liga campaigns, netting 35, 48 and 31 goals respectively.
Messi, meanwhile, scored 26 league goals last season, 43 in 2014/15 and 28 in 2013/14, but is already on 27 strikes for the current campaign.
With Ronaldo sitting on 19 La Liga goals and having failed to hit the back of the net in any of his past three league appearances – and also being rested against Leganes – the 32-year-old is eight goals short of Messi.
According to Diario Gol, Ronaldo has told close friends that he feels it will be impossible to catch Messi in this year's Pichichi race for the top goalscorer in La Liga.
Ronaldo and Messi have both won the trophy three times, but it appears Messi will take the lead in the duo's personal Pichichi race.
Only Messi's teammate Luis Suarez, who has scored 24 league goals so far, three less than the Argentine, seems close enough to rival the Albiceleste captain for the trophy.
It was Suarez who won the Pichichi trophy last season, after netting 40 La Liga goals.
