Former Barca Coach: There Was Tension With Messi
A former FC Barcelona manager, who won the UEFA Champions League, has revealed there was tension between himself and Lionel Messi during his time at the Camp Nou.
Luis Enrique was appointed Barca manager in the 2014-2015 season, where he led the club to their second treble.
However, AS report it was not all smooth sail as Enrique and Messi had clashed after an encounter against Celta Vigo, where the player questioned the manager's tactics and team selection.
The same report claims Enrique's statement, I am the leader of this team.” in his first ever press conference did not sit with the club's all-time top scorer,
Enrique has since confirmed that there was tension between the pair in his debut season as manager.
“Until the issue was resolved there was a period of tension, which I was not looking for in any way, but which happened and needed to be managed. But today I can only say good things about Leo Messi,” Enrique was quoted as saying by AS.
Enrique won a total of nine trophies during his three seasons with the Catalan giants before leaving in 2017.
