FC Barcelona superstar Neymar had a couple of run-ins with Atletico Madrid stars last season, but Rojiblancos left back Filipe Luis has now defended the Brazilian's showboating.
Former Atletico captain Gabi previously slammed the 23-year-old’s attitude and his "annoying gestures" after the Brazilian attempted a couple of tricks during previous clashes.
However, Luis insisted Neymar doesn’t showboat to mock his opposition, explaining that it’s the way he has always played.
"In Spain, it's not usual to see those kinds of things, but I do know Neymar well," he told AS.
"Firstly, because we are teammates in the national side and, before that, we knew each other when he started out at Santos and he has always been the same as he is.
"I don't think Neymar's the kind of person who would make fun of anybody, it's just the way he plays and that's all there is to it.
"You have to try to stop him. He's quick, he's lethal in front of goal… You have to be very alert when he's on the ball.
"Whatever he does, we have to focus on our game, make the most of the chances we get and put one past them."
In a match last season, Barcelona coach Luis Enrique even took Neymar off in order to prevent a heated altercation with several Atletico stars.
The Brazilian is expected to receive a frosty reception when Barcelona face Rojiblancos at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday.
