Barca Star: Messi Is The World's Best, But...

Although many players affiliated with FC Barcelona would likely say Lionel Messi deserved to win the 2018 Ballon d'Or over Luka Modric, a certain Blaugrana star has given a different take on the matter.

Messi Beaten To 2018 World's Best Playmaker Title, CR7 10th!

Barca boss Ernesto Valverde said earlier this week that he thought it was bizarre Messi finished fifth in this year's Ballon d'Or ranking, but while defender Clement Lenglet believes his teammate is the best footballer in the world, he feels that other players were more deserving of the accolade.

"As a footballer, there's no better player than Messi, but this year Modric and some French players also deserved a prize," he said, according to Marca.

"If you take the year into account, I understand Ballon d'Or a little more, but if you have to choose the best player, for me there is no doubt.

"The French had an incredible World Cup, but Modric reached the World Cup final and won the Champions League.

"He is a great player and I think he also deserves the Ballon d'Or."

This year was the first time Messi finished outside the top three for the Ballon d'Or since 2006.
