FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has scored a free-kick in three successive LaLiga games for the first time in his career, and also extended his own record over Cristiano Ronaldo along the way.

The Argentine scored his side's only goal in the Blaugrana's 1-0 win over second-placed Atletico Madrid on the weekend.
Messi beat Atleti shot-stopper Jan Oblak with another superb set-piece goal, and it was, overall, Messi's 24th free-kick goal in LaLiga, as MessiStats_ pointed out.
The 30-year-old has now scored a direct free-kick in three consecutive LaLiga games after netting against Girona, Las Palmas and now Atletico.
Sunday's strike was Messi's sixth free-kick goal from 63 attempts this season, according to Marca. This means that he has an impressive conversion rate of 9.5%.
After overtaking longstanding rival Ronaldo in January, Messi has now scored 24 free-kicks in LaLiga – four more than any other player in the Spanish top flight since the data was first recorded in 1993/94.
Overall, Messi has now scored 24 goals in 27 LaLiga games this season, and 32 in 41 games across all competitions.
