The Argentine bagged a treble in his side's 3-1 win over Leganes on the weekend, and those strikes took his LaLiga tally for the current campaign to 29 goals, which means he now sits joint-top of the European Golden Shoe standings.
Messi joins Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who sat out the Merseyside derby draw on the weekend, at the top of the ranking. The duo's 29 league strikes equate to 58 points in the European Golden Shoe ranking, with their leagues' accumulator being rated as "two" by UEFA.
Ciro Immobile follows with 54 points after scoring his 27th Serie A goal of the campaign on Sunday, while Robert Lewandowski sits just outside the top three, with the Poland striker having scored 26 Bundesliga goals, equating to 52 points.
Benfica striker Jonas is the only player from outside Europe's top five leagues among the current top 10. His 33 goals are only multiplied by 1.5 because the Portuguese Liga NOS is not considered among Europe's elite divisions.
Edinson Cavani, Mauro Icardi and Harry Kane follow with 24 goals and 48 points each, while Cristiano Ronaldo has climbed into ninth position after scoring 19 goals in his last 10 league appearances. He now has 23 strikes and 46 points, one spot ahead of Luis Suarez, who completes the top 10 with 22 goals and 44 points.
