After recent reports suggested that Lionel Messi has stopped contract negotiations and is considering leaving FC Barcelona, the club's president has now insisted both parties are still "in talks" over the superstar's future.
Last week, Cadena SER reported that the 33-year-old is fed up with leaks from within the club involving him in situations he had nothing to do with, and that he is also questioning whether or not the Blaugrana have a winning project.
However, Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu has once again downplayed the speculation, insisting that Messi will stay at the Camp Nou.
"We have spoken, we are talking and we will talk to Messi," Bartomeu told TV3, as quoted by Marca.
"He wants to finish his career here, he will renew [his contract] for sure, I have no doubt that he will continue here."

Bartomeu also claimed that former club captain Xavi Hernandez will coach the club in the future, but added that Quique Setien still has the full backing of the board.
"Xavi will be the Barcelona coach, some day," he continued.
"But now we are not looking for a coach, we are with Quique.
"Quique Setien will be in the team for the Champions League.
"The aim is for him to be the coach next season, our intention is to fulfil contracts."
Barcelona currently sit four points behind Real Madrid in LaLiga, with just two games left to play this season.
