FC Barcelona's under-fire president Josep Maria Bartomeu has dropped a huge bombshell regarding the club's pursuit of Neymar, whom Lionel Messi is desperate to have back at the Catalan club.
The Brazilian has been strongly linked with a return to the Blaugrana, following his controversial 2017 transfer to French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar reportedly went close to going back to Barca in the window at the start of this season, and reportedly remains on the club's shortlist they would like to sign, but will not be targeted in the coming weeks and months due to the financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak, according to Barca president Bartomeu.
"Barca have spoken to Inter (Milan) about Lautaro (Martinez) over the last few weeks but the conversations have been put on hold by mutual consent," he told Sport.
"The current situation doesn't allow for major transfer fees.
"In the current situation, no (in response to whether or not Barca will try to sign Neymar). PSG don't want to sell either, which makes sense as he's one of the best players in the world. Last summer we tried really hard to sign him but this summer we won't even try.
"The club lost €200 million (£180m/$235m) between March and June. If the situation doesn't improve, there won't be people in the stands, at the museum or the shops and we'll keep losing money. This will cause us to revise our spending plans and which ones can wait. We have to adapt.
"All the big European clubs have been impacted by this and we are all working to adapt. This won't be for just one year, it could be for up to three or four years."

Neymar has played 82 times for PSG in the three years he has spent in France so far, scoring 70 goals and assisting a further 39 strikes.
