FC Barcelona Boss Reveals Lionel Messi's Reaction To Being Man-Marked
FC Barcelona's manager has explained how Lionel Messi reacted to being man-marked in their La Liga match this past weekend.
Despite the Catalans beating Girona 3-0 on Saturday, defender Pablo Maffeo earned a lot of praise for keeping Messi quiet throughout the game.
Barca boss Ernesto Valverde, however, has since revealed that Messi still tried to help the team where possible, creating space in certain places of the field by dragging Maffeo with him wherever he ran.
"Messi being man-marked is something that can happen," the Spanish tactician said, according to Sport360.
"But it's also certain that it will create openings for us to take advantage of.
"Messi came to speak to me after 10 minutes to ask me where I wanted him to leave the man who was marking him. He was calm and continued to help the team."
Two own goals and one from Luis Suarez handed the Catalan giants the victory, which keeps the Blaugrana at the top of the league standings.
The Argentine has scored 12 goals and assisted a further two strikes in nine games across all competitions for Barca so far this season.
