The Argentine was on top form in the Catalan club's empathic win over Girona this weekend, scoring twice and assisting another strike.
Despite being almost unplayable for the 90 minutes, the 30-year-old stunned his teammates with his second goal of the game – a free-kick that was intentionally struck under the jumping wall.
Valverde, who thought he might have become accustomed to Messi's brilliance, has admitted the forward's latest trick left him stunned.
"It's hard to get used to these things," the Spanish tactician said, according to the Daily Express.
"Just when a player seems to have done everything, he goes and surprises you.
"We were waiting to see how he was going to beat the wall and then he goes underneath it.
"When you see it, you think 'Ah, of course...' Leo makes it look easy, but it's not that easy."
Messi has scored 30 goals and assisted a further 16 strikes in 39 games across all competitions for the Blaugrana so far this season.
