With Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric being crowned the 2018 Best Men's Player by FIFA on Monday night, FC Barcelona's boss has provided his opinion on who he believes deserved the award.
8 High-Profile Stars Comment On Modric Winning World's Best Prize
The Croatian beat Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah to the prestigious individual prize earlier this week, while Lionel Messi finished fifth in the voting.
Asked what he thought of Modric winning the accolade, manager Ernesto Valverde insisted the best player in the world did not pick up the award this year.
"Everyone has their own opinion," he said, according to Sport.
"It's not the moment to compare players. Modric had a great year, but it's an award which says The Best and the best is not there… For us, it's Leo (Messi)."
Messi Still Trails CR7's Free-Kick Record
Modric ended Messi and Ronaldo's 10-year dominance at the FIFA award in London on Monday, with the superstars having each won the award on five occasions previously.
