The Argentine was not in the matchday squad for his team's goalless draw with Huesca on Saturday, so he stayed on 33 goals, which equates to 66 points in the European Golden Shoe ranking.
His closest rival, Kylian Mbappe, drew a blank in Paris Saint-Germain's embarrassing 5-1 defeat to Lille on Sunday. As a consequence, Mbappe stayed on 27 goals and 54 points, which leaves Messi all but certain to lift another Golden Shoe – if he does, it would be the sixth time the 31-year-old will have lifted the coveted individual accolade, extending his own record.
Fabio Quagliarella moved back into third spot after netting his 22nd Serie A goal of the season, which saw him move one strike ahead of Krzysztof Piatek and Robert Lewandowski.
Further down the ranking, Ronaldo is in joint-10th position with 19 strikes in 2018/19, equating to 38 points in the Golden Shoe ranking, and African stars Mohamed Salah and Nicolas Pepe, who both scored on the weekend, are on the same number of goals as the four-time Golden Shoe winner.
The Portuguese superstar was once again rested this past weekend, which means he has now missed Juventus' past six league games.
