'Emperor' Messi Slammed By Griezmann's Ex-Advisor

Lionel Messi has been sarcastically describeded as an "emperor" and been accused of making Antoine Griezmann's life at FC Barcelona a living hell by the scout who discovered the Frenchman many years ago.

Koeman: Why I Benched Messi

The 29-year-old joined the Catalan club from Atletico Madrid in 2019, and has not yet found his feet in the side despite his many years of importance under Diego Simeone at Los Rojiblancos and Didier Deschamps for France.

Eric Olhats, Griezmann's former advisor and the man who discovered the former Real Sociedad attacker, has blamed many of the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner's struggles at the Camp Nou on Messi, whom he says did not welcome the player to the Blaugrana like he should have.

"Antoine arrived in a struggling club where Messi has a view on everything," he told France Football.

"He's at the same time (the) emperor and monarch, and he didn't see Antoine's arrival with a good eye. His attitude has been deplorable, he made him feel that. I've always heard Antoine say there's no problem with Messi, but never the other way around.

"It's a reign of terror. You're either with him or against him.

"In my eyes, Messi said he wanted to leave to see what role he still had as a decision-making player, regarding the players who arrived and those who left, but he eventually stayed.

"Classic Messi! As good on the pitch as he is bad off it… Barcelona has been suffering for a while. There was a cancer in that club, and it obviously leaves some marks.

"It's club that's sick, not him. Last year, when Antoine arrived, Messi didn't talk to him, didn't pass him the ball. He created a real trauma for a more than negative adaptation.

"That clearly left its mark. It was clear and visible. Add to that the president stepping down, the club conceding eight against Bayern and three different managers… The conditions aren't good."

Griezmann has scored 17 goals and assisted a further five strikes in 57 matches for Barcelona.
