During a Ligue 1 match against Lyon earlier in the season, the pair seemed to have an argument on the field over who was going to take a free-kick
Cavani, who was on set-piece duty before Neymar’s world-record arrival from FC Barcelona, did not react well to the Brazilian taking the kick, which reportedly led to a fallout at the time.
The Uruguay international has admitted there were issues with the 26-year-old when he first joined PSG, saying he told Neymar the team should come first.
"It is true that there was a problem with Neymar," he told RMC.
"I told him that I was the first to want him to win distinctions, but with the condition that he put the group's objectives first.
"In the end, we understood each other, while the team leaders made a decision and I respected it."
As a result of their spat, Neymar received some jeers from PSG supporters, but Cavani has insisted they were not healthy for the team.
"I am a football worker, I am not a star, if I have teammates who can win personal honours, I will do what I can to help them, but I will always put the team's objectives ahead," he said.
"Those public whistles were not good, I put myself in their place and I would not have liked them, honestly."
Neymar has not played for PSG since March due to an injury, and is likely to only be fit again for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
